Choose an access method around read reliability, customer support, data rights and the payment system it serves. A lane-recognition product does not by itself guarantee membership retention or lower labor needs.

Test the full entry experience
RFID uses an identifier associated with an account; plate recognition uses a camera-based reading process. Each creates different enrollment, replacement and exception tasks. Ask the provider what happens when a tag or read is absent or associated with the wrong record.
Test ordinary lane speeds, weather, lighting, unfamiliar vehicles and multiple vehicles on a plan. Evaluate the time required to resolve an exception rather than just the best-case read rate.
Connect access to authorized billing
Document how an active paid account is recognized and how failed charges, cancellations and suspensions affect entry. Review staff override rights and the exception log. A recognition success is not proof that the recurring payment succeeded.
Ask whether the platform supports the site’s plan rules and what must change at an ownership transfer. Obtain written information about integrations, fees, support and contract termination.
Review privacy and transfer rights
Confirm which data are captured, access roles, storage, retention and permitted use. Have counsel review notices and legal obligations for the actual implementation. Minimize unnecessary data rather than retaining every observation indefinitely.
A buyer needs authorized platform control and usable data exports where allowed. Transfer system access through the vendor; do not rely on a seller’s personal shared account.
Use a site-level cost comparison
Compare installation, identifiers, cameras, subscriptions, support, replacement and staff exception time. Run a documented pilot and keep the offline fallback safe. The better choice is the one that reliably fits this lane and customer process.
