Build the acquisition around available capital, lender requirements and the operating role you want. Counseling and certification resources can support preparation; they do not establish an automatic loan discount, grant or approval.

Define the business and your role
Choose format, location radius, property preference and how actively you intend to operate. Identify skills you have and work needing paid staff or qualified providers. Assess each opportunity's actual duties rather than accept assumptions about who typically owns the business.
Build an initial budget covering purchase, transaction costs, immediate work and retained operating cash. Keep family or personal liquidity needs visible alongside the business reserve. A plan should remain workable in a slower period, not only during a strong month.
Use support programs for their actual purpose
SBA counseling and local support resources can help organize planning and lender preparation. Verify current eligibility, availability and service scope with the provider. Do not treat a past program description as a promised source of acquisition capital.
The Women-Owned Small Business federal contracting program concerns eligible contracting opportunities. It is not, by itself, acquisition financing approval. Any contracting strategy should be reviewed for an actual opportunity rather than counted as guaranteed wash revenue.
Present a lender-ready file
Prepare current equity evidence, experience, ownership structure and the target's supportable earnings. Ask the lender how guarantees, management, property and other conditions apply to the actual proposal. SBA-backed borrowing is still lender-reviewed financing.
Compare written terms and full obligations with the appropriate advisors. Be cautious about a funding plan that closes the purchase but leaves no maintenance or staffing cushion. Forecast gains should not substitute for the required repayment evidence.
Build the operating network
Identify training, service providers, accountant, counsel and backup management suited to the selected format. Confirm support availability and pricing rather than assume a program provides operational coverage. Document authority for collections, refunds and emergencies.

| What operating role fits my goals? | Format, skills, time and required paid coverage. | Evaluate your plan rather than assumptions about typical ownership. |
| What does a support program actually provide? | Current eligibility and service scope from the provider. | Separate counseling or contracting certification from acquisition capital. |
| Is the funding plan lender-ready? | Equity, borrower structure and supportable target earnings. | Avoid relying on an automatic discount or approval claim. |
| Who supports the first operating period? | Training, vendors, advisors and backup responsibilities. | Keep resources practical beyond the purchase closing. |
